The nation is mourning the passing of its beloved Queen. Losing the Queen for me is like losing a parent. Those who have lost their beloved parent will probably revisit their own grief as well as grieve the loss of a constant figure which is what our Queen was.  She was our rock who gave us stability in times of great uncertainty, and we knew she was always there to guide us.  The Queen epitomised all that is great about this country.  Grief, is a strange yet familiar feeling only those bereaved will understand. If our parent is elderly and frail their presence still gives us comfort but when they pass away we are left with this irreplaceable loss, hard to articulate but palpable nonetheless. The warmth we felt with their presence is like a lovely duvet, suddenly it is snatched away when death strikes. Just imagine you are sitting in the middle of the road, exposed to the elements, you are left yearning for their hand to help you up. You don’t know how you will keep going but you know you will find the strength to live somehow.

The Queen died at the age of 96 and my father died at the age of 95. Being of a ‘good’ age is no consolation because you have lost the person who had your back. I was shocked and saddened when I heard our Queen had died, millions of people share this sense of profound loss.  I want to send a message to all those who have a loving but elderly or frail parent, please do not take the presence for granted.  It is true one ending is the start of a new beginning, the adult child becomes of age when they realise they have the responsibility of a legacy to further.  It is also true no matter how old you are when your parent dies you are left orphaned and bereft, yet you must carry on. Our new King and his family are grieving the loss of their beloved mother and we share in their grief because of what she meant to us. Thank you Ma’am for your sacrifice and service for our great country and the commonwealth.  Thank you for doing your duty right until the end. x.

REST IN PEACE H.R.M.

Long Live the King.

Peace be with you.
